Flash (Another Alaska Photograph) #4
Imagine! But what's the point? I think
of that trunk / these two —
of that once the family stories
point away from
/ toward us and through Elizabeth —
that woman as seamless
as summer light — and that man
head-strong / taking
the changes on himself — the salves
as they ease his hands
toward evening meals and to incomes
/ toward evening like ours
when poems or pictures entertain her —
remembering all September
had to show them in that clearing —
and warmed as their own
and fire-warmed / shadowed flesh
and feather covers
/ the mattress his own hands stuffed
( may be ) till they were aching —
seeing her eyes / your eyes —
and in your own
the remedy for all that repetition —
the appreciating much / more —
in color schemes and storyboards
good fortune mused around
/ refreshed with the wines
her eyes had all along
been promising.
